We love connecting with people who share the vision of Apotheke. Pete and Selena at Grey Lane Homestead focus on clean, simple living while celebrating timeless design and enjoying precious moments with their little bundle of joy. They've expressed how much they appreciate the candles and soaps we make here at Apotheke, and recently I was able to catch up with them to chat about how they live their beautiful life so effortlessly.
FROM PETE AND SELENA:
"Design and clean minimal living have forever been my passion. I suppose that resinates from childhood. We were raised on a small hobby farm where we grew our own food and I spent my days riding horses and being outside in nature. This was a lifestyle that always spoke to me and four babies later that still holds true for life today.
My husband Peter and I are working hard to make that life a reality for our four children. When building our home we cleared land for pastures/riding ring a horse stable and several gardens to grow our own vegetables and herbs. Then followed a greenhouse and this Spring we hope to expand our outdoor living spaces. Any given day I can be found in the herb gardens working away so when we designed our home we wanted to incorporate our love for simplicity and all things related to nature.
"We love simple clean layering and natural textures. every feature serves a purpose and has a function in our daily lives."
I’m certain almost every room in our home is adorned with natural hand poured candles in pretty vessels and we use essential oils daily so we keep all our diffusers throughout our home full of whatever scent we are currently feeling and presently citrus and woodsy blends are the current favourite. If I had to narrow it down I would say Sea Salt Grapefruit has my heart right now. I love the handmade bar soap but I keep our Pura diffuser stocked with that scent as well.
In the midsts of the building process I wanted to crave out some small cozy spots for the kids to park with their favourite new read so naturally we thought under the main staircase would be an ideal reading nook for our little bookworms. My husband and I were both painfully shy as children so we spent countless hours curled up with a good book.
Motherhood in itself is a full time job so having any alone time is a great luxury. We appreciate how essential that is so whenever possible we give ourselves a little breather just to recharge and relax. Easier said then done a lot of the times so taking it all in with good humour is key. Best parenting advice I every received is learn to laugh at yourself! Children are painfully honest and at some point they will call you out and challenge you so humour is your friend!
We are homebody’s at heart so our recipe is simplicity, joy and last but certainly not least good food! If you’re ever in doubt all things can be worked out over an amazing meal prepared in our most coveted room in our home the kitchen! We grow our food as a family, we take great care in preparing meals as a family and the more the merrier. This is the inspiration behind our Spring project. We have long dreamt of an outdoor dining space to host our gathering so this is our year.
This one is near and dear to our hearts so we cannot wait for this next chapter! "
THANKS PETE AND SELENA!
